9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. - 1 Peter 2:9-10

The Gospel is whole cloth, woven together so tightly that it can bear the weight not only of evil in the human heart, but also the glory God bestows on humanity. The desperately evil heart is difficult to deny - it is our daily companion and the reason we must regularly confess, forgive, grieve, heal. But the glory may be harder to believe. By God's mercy we are called royalty, we are his people. We, the ones with unruly children or sketchy ethics, we the ones who do what we must do to make ends meet - we are a priesthood, we who would run away from God have been welcomed by God. It is a heavy, beautiful goodness given through Christ. Only the Gospel can bear the true story of our humanity - the weight of sin and the weight of glory. You who are in Christ are truly loved.
